Jamhuri OS is a next-generation mobile and embedded operating system developed in Kenya to provide a sovereign digital infrastructure for Africa. Created by innovators at the Career Craft Training Institute in Maai Mahiu, Naivasha, the platform is designed to replace foreign dependencies with locally governed alternatives, ensuring that technology serves the continent's specific economic and connectivity needs. By building on the foundation of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), the operating system provides a familiar and robust environment while introducing custom layers tailored for African cybersecurity, language support, and regional infrastructure requirements.
The project addresses significant challenges such as data sovereignty, high licensing costs for foreign software, and the lack of localization in existing global platforms.
